Orientation

Incoming students enjoy an in-depth orientation week before the start of the preparation period that includes information about student life, academics, a trip around the country, and time to move into their dorm rooms.

For students who have never visited Israel before and do not necessarily speak Hebrew or understand the cultural nuances, we will do our best to help make the transition smooth and comfortable. Our goal is to ensure that all international students have an exciting and fulfulling academic and social experience at the Technion.

Learning Hebrew

International students with no prior knowledge of Hebrew will have the option to take an intensive Hebrew language course called “Ulpan.” Students interested in participating will be given a placement test and divided into classes based on their test results. Classes are designed to help students feel comfortable using Hebrew.

Health Insurance

All Technion students are required to have comprehensive health insurance coverage throughout their studies. An Israeli health fund provides a special insurance plan for international students at the Technion. The plan provides comprehensive health coverage and high-level primary and secondary medical care for $500 a year. This includes coverage for hospitalization, a 24-hour English-language hotline, house-calls and subsidized medication.

There is a health clinic on-campus that is staffed by a general physician. Counselors in the dorms and staff members will be available at all times to help students with any health care issues.

Visa Assistance

Before entering the academic program, all students must clarify their status and eligibility for a student visa, tourist visa, or Israeli citizenship with the Israeli embassy or consulate in their county of origin.

The Technion’s International School staff is here to provide advice and assistance on visa issues to prospective students.

Contact information for Israeli embassies and consulates around the world can be found at www.mfa.gov.il/MFA.

New immigrants can consult with the Ministry of Immigrant Absorption for advice and assistance at www.moia.gov.il.
